The watermelon tourmaline is a rare Tourmaline variety that displays three different colors in the same crystal - green (the skin of the watermelon), pink (the sweet fruit) and white (the rind).
The colours of the watermelon tourmaline occur 100% naturally, being a rare occurence in nature. If you were born in October the Tourmaline is your birthstone.
Its name comes from the Sinhalese (Sri Lankan) word 'tura mali', meaning 'the stone of mixed colours'.
Tourmaline is available from black to bluish black, dark brown, yellow, medium brown, blue to neon blue, lime to dark forest green, red and reddish purple, yellow, pink and colourless.
The most expensive ones are the blue Indicolite, the green Verdelite and the pink Rubellite.
Tourmalines are usually given on 8th Wedding Anniversaries.
